The Interschools Snowsports Championships is a series of snowsports competitions where students
compete for their school as part of a team or an individual in any of our seven discipline events.
Each year Jindabyne Central School enters teams in the ACT/Southern NSW Interschools Snowsports Championships, which is held at Perisher. This is followed by the State and Australian Interschools Championships.
Jindabyne Central currently holds the NSW State Champions' trophy for Primary and Secondary Girls, and the Australian trophy for the Champion Co-Educational School.
Many former JCS students started their competition career through Interschools Snowsports involvement, and have gone on to represent Australia at World Cup level and at the Winter Olympics.
Teams and Disciplines
Alpine GS, Skiercross, Moguls, Cross-Country Relay and Cross Country (team & individual), Snowboarding GS and Boardercross.
Teams are selected to ensure the maximum number of teams' progress through to the next round. Both speed (based on available previous times) and consistency (based on completed runs) are used to select teams. Significant emphasis is also placed on sportsmanship and team spirit.
All students entering should be very confident skiers or boarders for the discipline(s) of their choice, especially Moguls. All skiers and boarders need to be able to ride chairlifts and T-bars with minimal supervision.
The Slopestyle event, for Skiing and Snowboarding, will be held at the State and National Championships. Students in Divisions 1,2 & 3 (Year 7 – 12) only will be selected to compete. X'Country will also be included at the State and National Championships
Dates for the 2018 events are;
ACT/Southern Championships at Perisher July 25th-27th
NSW State Championships at Thredbo August 21st-26th
Australian Championships at Perisher September 5th-9th
Entry costs for 2018 are (GST inclusive):
- $30 Rego/Insurance (a once-only payment for 2018, applicable to all skiers and boarders, including those who already may have a race license)
- $47 per competitor, per event
