JCS Students Shine at Interschools Equestrian Events with Impressive Results

Indie at 2023 SMEIC

Two talented Year 10 students from Jindabyne Central School, Skye McCoullough and Indiana (Indie) Bourke, recently attended The Snowy Mountains Interschools Equestrian Competition (SMIEC) held at the Equestrian Park in Canberra from 4th-7th May. Hosted by Snowy Mountains Grammar School, the SMEIC is a fantastic opportunity for students to showcase their equestrian skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Skye and her horse Royal Reggie delivered exceptional performances across multiple disciplines. She secured a well-deserved 2nd place in the 95cm Senior One Day Event, which comprises the combined scores across Dressage, Cross-Country, and Showjumping. In addition, Skye placed 5th in the 1.10M Showjumping and achieved 2nd place in the Elementary 3.1 Dressage and 3rd place in the Elementary 3.2 Dressage. Speaking of the event Skye said it was “great to be back at SMIEC, showcasing the best of equestrian sport and competing against talented riders from all over the region. Such a fun event!”

Indie took two horses to the competition and also made JCS proud. She competed with Dane in the 80cm Combined Training and Showjumping disciplines, and although they didn't place, Indie was super happy with Dane's performance as he is returning to competition after an extended period of time off. Indie also competed with her horse Rubinz in the Elementary Dressage competition, winning one class with a score of over 70% and placing 2nd in the other class. As a result of their hard work and success, they received the overall Elementary Champion title and were awarded a beautiful rug.

Thank you to Skye and Indie’s families for their support and taking them to the events to represent our school. The best part of the competition was that Skye and Indie were able to share the experience as friends and teammates. Their success at the SMIEC is a testament to their dedication, hard work, and passion for equestrian sports. We are proud of our students and look forward to seeing them excel in future competitions.

Indie Excels at State Dressage Event

The 2023 NSW State Equestrian Interschools event was held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre (the same place as the 2000 Olympics!) during the April school holidays.

Indie Burke qualified with 2 horses to represent Jindabyne Central school at the event in the Dressage discipline. Deja is the pony she has been riding for over 7 years and this was their last event together. In the Senior Novice classes, she placed 8th and 9th for 10th place overall.

Rubinz is Indie's new horse who was at only his 4th competition ever and he competed across two levels. In the Elementary they placed 7th and 11th for 10th place overall.

The next day he competed in Novice receiving a 1st and 4th placing and was 2nd overall in the state! We are keeping our fingers crossed for an invitation to Nationals!

Skye's main focus for her equestrian events is the Eventing discipline which did not run at State Interschools this year. The NSW State Interschools team for Eventing will therefore be selected based on results at Open Equestrian Australia Horse Trials across the season. Skye has had some great results so far and awaits the announcement of this team later this year.

JCS is extremely proud of both Indie and Skye's efforts and wish them all the best for future events.
