Abi heads to the 2018 Junior World Champs NZ

Abi Harrigan and JCS Snowsports Coordinator Paul Livissianos

It has been fantastic to see JCS student Abi Harrigan rise as a snow sport athlete over the years. She has gone from first representing her school at the Interschool's at eight years old to recently being named on the team for the FIS Junior Freestyle Ski & Snowboard World Championships 2018.

The event will take place in Wanaka, New Zealand from August 24 – September 8 and will provide Abi with valuable experience to step up onto the international stage.

Held at the impressive Cardrona Alpine Resort, the competition will feature freestyle ski and snowboard Big Air, Halfpipe and Slopestyle for both disciplines, Ski Cross, Snowboard Cross and Abi will compete in Ski Slopestyle/Big Air in Park and Pipe.

Abi started skiing at three and for years has chased her older brothers around on snow that helped develop her ability free skiing the mountains.

Abi first competed in the Interschool's for JCS and then started to enter as many Slopestyle and Halfpipe Competitions she could.

Training on snow at Perisher is where Abi spends most of her time during winter however training also involves trampoling and water ramps.

While she hasn't trained much overseas as yet, Abi spent time on Park City last year and hopes to do more like Wanaka this year.

Abi hopes to one day represent Australia in skiing and after she completes the upcoming Junior World Cup she aims to compete in the Youth Winter Olympics before  making her debut at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Her advice to young athletes, ‘keep having fun and pushing your limits.'
