Jindabyne Public School Shines at Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition

students holding public speaking certificates

On Wednesday, June 21, Jindabyne Public School (JPS) had the honour of sending two Stage 2 and two Stage 3 students to participate in the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition - Local Final in Bungendore.

For the past 28 years, this prestigious competition has provided a platform for primary school students to delve into the concept of multiculturalism in Australia, while honing their public speaking abilities and gaining confidence. Each year, approximately 2,000 students are selected to compete in the local finals, where they deliver both a prepared speech and an impromptu speech.

Our local final was hosted and coordinated by Ms. Kerry Forman from Bungendore Public School, who was impressed by the exceptional quality of speeches delivered by the students. She even mentioned that the speeches were the best she had witnessed in her 15 years of involvement in public speaking. The participating schools were commended by Ms. Forman for their efforts in nurturing the public speaking skills of their students.

In the Stage 3 competition, JPS student, Marna Yat Thompson emerged as the winner with an outstanding speech on the topic of "Difficult Journeys." Meanwhile, fellow JPS student, Millie Larkin received a highly commended accolade for her exceptional performance. In the Stage 2 competition, Matilda Forsdyke took home the victory with a captivating speech titled "A Safe Place to Call Home."

We couldn't be prouder of the achievements of our talented students. Their success in the local final is a reflection of their commitment, preparation, and eloquence. As we look ahead, we wish Marna and Matilda the best of luck as they represent Jindabyne Public School at the regional final next term. Their hard work and determination are sure to make them strong contenders in the upcoming competition.
