JCS Sophie Harper artwork unveiled on 2020 MyThredbo Card

sh

Jindabyne Central School values its cultural connections to the wider local community. When Thredbo released its K-6 local schools MyThredbo Card Art Competition, JCS students took to the challenge to come up with a design under the theme ‘Gondola’.

JCS Year 3 student Sophie Harper was among the artists who entered the competition and was thrilled to be announced the winner of the 2020 MyThredbo Card artwork.

Her artwork displays sunset hues, with bold red gondolas marching their way towards Merritt’s and a mountain horizon showing detail beyond her years.

With this years artwork celebrating community, Sophie’s artwork will be imprinted on the back on all Thredbo cards over the 2020 season.

Sophie is described as a ‘kind and helpful member of her class’ and her picture channels her love of the Snowy Mountains and Thredbo and her excitement at the building of the new gondola. A keen skier, she says she feels happy when being artistic and enjoys the fact that her art gives her ideas for writing in her journal at home.

Sophie is now in excellent company, joining the list of commissioned artists who have been included on the back of the MyThredbo card for the past five years due to their a strong link to Thredbo.

This project showcases the depth of talent in the Snowy Mountains and the special relationship each artist has with the mountains. Well done Sophie and to all the students who entered the competition.
